The microphone in the new SpeechMike Premium is isolated from the housing, delivering unprecedented recording quality from a desktop dictation device. A completely redesigned microphone suspension ensures that almost no background, touch, click, wind, or structural noise is recorded. This technique comes from studio microphones to ensure no signal distortion – and guarantee excellent speech recognition results.
Optimized microphone grille for crystal-clear sound
A well-designed grille can distinguish a high-end microphone as seen in the new SpeechMike Premium. The hexagonal holes used in the metal grille have three times the open surface area than its predecessor, designed to provide crystal-clear recordings.
Built-in anti-interference filter delivering superb quality
The microphone area of the SpeechMike Premium consists of multiple layers to sound as clean and natural as possible. One of these layers is fleece, placed above and below the microphone capsule. Fleece filters sound distortions such as tapping and noise, ensuring superb results even when dictating close to the microphone.
Large speaker area for premium playback
Compared to its predecessor, SpeechMike Premium is equipped with a dual speaker area, enabling playback of recordings in clear, crisp quality.
Optimized control console for comfortable operation
Philips pioneered ergonomic zone design. SpeechMike Premium has been tested and proven by users to be the most comfortable fit for the human hand. The dictation zone is optimized to minimize thumb movement. The keys needed for actual dictation functions are centrally placed in the most comfortable area for the thumb, providing excellent ergonomics and a strain-free experience. Less frequently used function keys are clearly arranged above and below. All used keys are shaped to provide as much tactile feedback as possible.

Because the back of the dictation microphone is as important as the front, Philips focused on shaping it to perfectly fit the human hand and reduce accidental button presses. The trigger and the 'command' button on the rear panel are designed exactly where they should be. There has never been a desktop dictation device as ergonomic as SpeechMike Premium.
Integrated motion sensor mutes the microphone when not in use
Leading the field of technology, Philips SpeechMike Premium features an integrated motion sensor, making it the first desktop dictation device that can be controlled by hand movement. It detects when it is placed on a desk, mutes the microphone, and when picked up again, unmutes the microphone. There are many scenarios where this feature can be extremely beneficial; think of an upcoming phone call or someone entering the office. Additionally you can program custom events, e.g., to pause and resume recording.
Freely programmable function keys for a personalized workflow
Philips SpeechMike Premium is the most advanced dictation microphone to date—and to give users even more customization options, Philips added an instruction key on the top of the control console—of course fully and freely programmable by the user, especially useful for programming voice recognition commands.
Polished surface reducing unwanted touch noise
The housing of the new SpeechMike Premium is made of high-quality polymers. The housing features a polished surface, and the material contains a pearlescent metallic additive, providing a high-quality metallic look and making it resistant to touch noises and fingerprints.
Barcode scanner for streamlined documentation
Link customer or patient data to the recorded file simply by scanning the barcode (barcode SpeechMike Premium devices only). Scanned information is automatically attached to the dictation file, simplifying the documentation process. All identifying information is entered accurately, enhancing security and potential cost savings. The device can also be configured to automatically place scanned codes into the appropriate fields without moving the mouse cursor. With SpeechMike Premium you can scan barcodes from a distance of up to 60 cm / 23 in. That’s twice as far as the previous device could.
Antibacterial housing and buttons for hygienic operation
The housing and buttons of SpeechMike Premium are made from antibacterial polymers, protecting them against all kinds of germs. Antibacterial materials act against a wide range of microorganisms, such as bacteria (e.g., pneumococcal rods and multidrug-resistant microorganisms such as MRSA), viruses (e.g., HIV, influenza, etc.), fungi (e.g., Aspergillus niger) or algae. The antibacterial effect on SpeechMike Premium lasts for at least five years.
Laser-scanned, self-cleaning trackball for extra smooth operation
SpeechMike Premium includes a high-precision stainless steel trackball. The self-lubricating and wear-resistant PTFE bearings guarantee smooth operation throughout its lifetime. In combination with the laser scanner and self-cleaning features, the trackball is precise and durable like never before. Additionally, the trackball can be removed from the device for cleaning if ever needed.
